Antiparos Ultra 100

Cyclades - Antiparos

The “Antiparos Ultra 100” - 100Km Ultramarathon Road Race is an exciting running event taking place in a small holiday paradise located southwest of Paros Island in the Greek islands of The Cyclades. The calm cycladic landscape, with the scattered churches, the famous cave and the Enetic castle, is ideal for running. The race is unique in that it is a ‘hybrid’ in terms of terrain, with 40% of it being a road race and the remaining 60% a mountain race. Runners will enjoy a place blessed with exceptional natural beauty; the island offers a variety of types of coast, with golden sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. Please read carefully the conditions of participation.

a. Have completed Marathon race with time no more than 3:30 hours
b. Have completed 100Km race with time no more than 11:00 hours
c. Have participated in “Spartathlon” and have either completed the race or passed Assos Korinthias location (100,5 Km) in time less than 12:00 hours
d. Have participated and completed either an over 100Km race or a 12h or 24 hours covering at least 110Km or 170Km. Alternatively to have participated in 48hours race and have covered at least 250Km.
e. To have completed in time either “Efchideio” or “Aethlios” race.
The above mentioned requirements apply if the condition has taken place in a period of four (4) years, including the year of the race 100 km of Antiparos.

Medical Certificate
Runners are obliged to possess a Medical Certificate confirming that their physical condition permits them to participate in a 100-km ultramarathon race. The Certificate must be recent, issued within the 100 days prior to the Race.

Route
Runners set off from the Village Square and move downhill along a cobblestone road leading to the Port, covering a distance of 500m, at which point they turn due south and run along a paved road with small differences in altitude for some 9km, as far as the bend at Soros. Runners continue from the beach at Soros along a traversable dirt road for approximately 2.5km. At this point they turn towards the settlement of Ai Yiorgis. The dirt road becomes rougher and we ascend to an altitude of 111m. They then descend along a traversable dirt road towards Ai Yiorgis, reaching sea level and the Aid station there. This is also the crossing point linking the island of Antiparos and isle of Despotiko, which is an archaeological site as well.
From the Aid station runners head north towards the peak of Prophitis Ilias, moving along a traversable dirt road for approximately 2.5km and reaching a height of 172m. We descend in a westerly direction towards the beach at Monastiria, along a stretch that is the most pristine of the entire course and which constitutes what is arguably the most beautiful section of the race.
From sea level at Monastiria runners ascend to an altitude of 141m, on Akonitos hill, which has quite a steep incline, and during their descent they encounter a paved road in the area of Kambos, for a distance of 1.5km. At the chapel of Ayia Paraskevi they turn north along a dirt road. After passing the chapel of Ayios Dimitrios—in what is the final uphill portion of the ‘loop’ (128m altitude)—they run along the ridge above the village of Antiparos, which offers an exceptional view towards both the east and west coasts of the island. Runners descend and return to the Village Square, via the beach of Sifneikos Yialos.
Each lap covers a distance of 29.4km. Runners will complete three such laps; however, in order to cover the total distance of 100km, participants will start off by completing a smaller loop (Village Square-Port-Glyfa-Kambos-Sifneikos Yialos-Village Square = 11.8km), along a paved road.

Aid Stations
In total there will be 7 check points (supply points) to the 30km cycle which means one check point every 4Km

Health Coverage
In any case all runners participate solely at their own risk. The organizers have no responsibility for whatever happens to the runners related to health issues or is due to lack of preventive medical check. It is obligatory that the participants undergo a thorough medical examination before entering the race. We will also provide offers for special health checkup for all runners, and members of their families
Please read carefully the conditions of participation before selecting any offer!

Antiparos is a summer resort location ideal for quiet holidays. It is an island that is still ‘isolated’ and ‘untrodden’ by tourist hordes, despite the fact that more and more people have been discovering the place over the past few years. Antiparos is renowned for its relaxed, authentic atmosphere. It has many beaches on all sides of the island and offers a nice alternative to the more crowded and hectic islands around it. Like its "parent island" Paros, it is also known for its excellent wind conditions, ideal for wind- and kitesurfing. An area on the northern part of the island is a well known nude beach, though unofficial.

The town of Antiparos is best explored on foot, and several beaches are within fifteen minutes walking distance from the main street.

Antiparos attractions include:
- the famous cave of Antiparos, one of the most beautiful and mysterious caves in the world. The area was used for pottery, but also for the worship of the goddess Artemis.
- Despotiko: This small island to the south west of Antiparos features architectural components of a Doric temple built around 500 BC. There are ongoing excavations on the site since 1997.
- The Castle: A single wall is all that remains from a 1440 Venetian castle located in the middle of the capital.

The food in Antiparos is superb and you can easily find traditional food, fresh fish, grilled octopus, local meat, great wine and the local Antiparos raki in any of the many tavernas in the main street and along the port of Antiparos, as well as in a few hidden gems in the small alleys.

The entire town of Antiparos comes to life in the summer evenings with many bars and pubs and small restaurants. Since Hollywood stars like Tom Hanks choose Antiparos for their vacations, it is pretty cosmopolitan although there are still many relaxed and easygoing bars.

But above all it is the warmth, kindness and hospitality of the locals to ensure that your visit will be unforgettable. Last but not least, you can combine Antiparos with a visit or a staying to the famous Paros Island which is only 30 minutes away.

Access to Antiparos is through Paros, however it is very easy to get to the island. You can either take a 30 minutes boat ride from Parikia or a 6-minute ferry - boat ride from Punta (Punta is a 10 minutes drive from the port of Paros, and you can get there by bus or taxi, or on your own vehicle).
