Deadline registration
Registration is open until Friday, 30th of April 2017. Participation can be obtained via online registration or until a specific number of applications is reached.
Health coverage
In any case all runners participate solely at their own risk. The organisers have no responsibility for whatever happens to the runners related to health issues or owing to lack of a preventive medical check. It is highly recommended that the participants undergo a thorough medical examination before entering the race. The organisers will not ask for medical certificates from any athlete (male and female) since they all participate at their own exclusive risk and responsibility (parents or guardians have liability for their children). We will also provide offers for special health check-up for all runners, and members of their families.

Electronic Timing
All participants will be timed by a timing company using an electronic timing system. For this reason, the runners must wear the timing chip they will receive from the registration centre together with the participation number.
Attention: Your time will not be registered and will not be included in the results if you do not have the timing chip attached to your shoe or if you fail to pass over the timing mats.
Rules and Regulations
The Mountain Trail Marathon (23km) will take place on Sunday 7th May in Kassiopi. Men and women must be over 18 years of age to apply. For the 8km run, men and women must be over 16 years of age.
The event will start at 9.00 at the Primary school and the maximum time limit is fixed at 4h 30min. There will be a check point at the 12th km in the area of San Stephano, maximum time until this checkpoint is 2h 30min. There will be 3 checkpoints throughout the whole race.
- Runners are required to have their bib number visible at all times or they may be disqualified.
- The course will go through the ecosystem of Erimitis, so athletes are required to respect the natural environment.
- Rubbish bins will be located at all refreshment points, so runners are advised to throw all litter in allocated bins. Not doing so may lead to their disqualification.
- We, the organisers reserve the right to change the course if we believe it may lead to any form of danger or injury to runners.
- The cost to participate is 15 euro, which will be paid as the bib number is given. This includes, the number, T-shirt, pasta party at the night before the race, refreshments during race, a medal and packed snack at the end of the race.
- Entries for the 8kms race and 1,200m will open on 20th February and will be accepted until 1 hour before starting time.
- The cost for the 8kms is 5 euro, this also includes, bib number, refreshments during the race, medal and packed snack at the end. All the money from this race will be donated to the Children’s Cancer organisation in Corfu.
- For the 1,200 metres, children from ages 10-16 are allowed and this is free of charge.

Course description: The Event will commence and finish at the primary school of Kassiopi, the course will take the runners through traditional villages of the area, footpaths used years ago by locals to escape from pirate raids, and of course will go through the historical Fortress, a significant monument dated back to 12th century.

Corfu, well known for its contrasts, its vibrant colours and its variety of sightseeing has been a destination for carefree relaxation for many years.
Corfu is among the most beautiful and popular islands of Greece. Because of its strong historical connection with Europe, it was among the first Greek islands to open to tourism. Located in the north western side of the country, Corfu Island has a cosmopolitan feeling combined with a special traditional character. Paleokastritsa, Sidari, Kassiopi and Acharavi are nice tourist places on the northern side of the island, while the inland is dotted with lovely villages and many sights. In addition to the wonderful beaches, the highlight of the island is Corfu Old Town with the characteristic Venetian style.
'Corfu town is Venice and Naples, a touch of France and more than a dash of England, apart of course from being Greek'. In the beautifully preserved Old Town of Corfu, a UNESCO world heritage site, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical “repertoire” came to be successfully applied to local artistic traditions.
Palaces, fortresses, austere public buildings of the Venetian rule uniquely blend with lines of drying washing in tiny alleyways and small secluded squares. Strolling through a complex of narrow cobbled streets with stairways and vaulted passages, the so-called “kantoúnia”, will make visitors feel as if they’ve travelled to Genoa or Naples.
The nearby island, known as Pontikonisi (Greek meaning "mouse island"), though small is very green with abundant trees, and at its highest natural elevation (excluding its trees or man-made structures, such as the monastery). Pontikonisi is home of the monastery of Pantokrator, it is the white stone staircase of the monastery that when viewed from afar gives the impression of a (mouse) tail which lent the island its name: 'mouse island'. Visitors should not miss this opportunity to tour the Achilleion Palace, built by the Empress Elizabeth of Austria in 1891. View her breathtaking gardens as well as a spectacular panoramic view of the Ionian Sea. The Achilleion Palace also houses the Terrace of the Muses, which was built as a tribute to the nine muses of Greek mythology.
Thanks to the successive dominations of the Venetians, the French and the British over the centuries the island has primarily become part of the Western rather the Levantine world. Their culture wielded strong influence in the city: it was here that the first Greek University (the Ionian Academy), the first Philharmonic Orchestra and the First School of Fine Arts were founded.
Corfu is one of the liveliest islands in the Ionian and offers a great variety of bars and night clubs. Corfiot cuisine is neither spicy nor bland, but rich in the flavours of the Mediterranean. It is steeped in history and tradition. Specialties consist of local ingredients found on the island, especially olives, lemons, vegetables, tomatoes and fish.
The little known golf course of Corfu is one of the 19 greatest championship courses in Europe. Located in the Ropa Valley, this 18-hole golf, par-72 course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, with its excellent clubhouse and restaurant, combines the natural landscape of the area with well thought out hazards, making it a fine course for players of all standards.
Corfu is popular for the music tradition, starting from the 'Songs' in Greek called 'cadades' and reaching until the famous 'band', which accompanies the litany of the Epitaph on Good Friday. In the morning of Good Saturday, according to the Corfu tradition, the residents of the Old City throw pitchers with water from the balconies which symbolize the 'first resurrection' of Christ. The town is known and for the Carnival, which is accompanied by parades in traditional costumes. Finally, the kitchen of Corfu is famous for the «pastitsada», the «sofrito», the «bourdeto», the «nougat» and the «pasteli». The local products include the bergamot (for sweets and liqueurs), the gruyere cheese and the butter of Corfu, the olive oil and oregano.
Kassiopi village is one of the most beautiful and well known resorts in Corfu, where visitors return year after year. It is a coastal, picturesque village located on the North-East coast of Corfu. A place that combines mountain with sea, green with blue, new with old, tranquillity with liveliness, the locals that make you feel welcome and important to them, it fulfils the needs of all ages with many choices for day or night. Kassiopi is situated on the north east coast of Corfu at 36 kilometres from Corfu Town and is surrounded by lush green slopes of olive trees and charming little bays.
The picturesque amphitheatre shaped port, the well preserved church, the cosmopolitan finesse, the deep blue and hospitable shores, the sight of the huge Byzantine fortress that looms over the village as well as the varied and affordable choices of bars and restaurants will enchant the visitors.
Kassiopi was named after Cassius Zeus, a god worshipped mainly in the East (Syria and Egypt). To this day it has not been confirmed who the first inhabitants were, that transferred the idolatry of Cassius Zeus to Kassiopi. Some believe that this happened in 281 B.C. from Piros, the king of Epirus. Others believe that this happened in 168 B.C .when, Kassopi a town in Epirus was destroyed by the Romans and the inhabitants sought refuge in Corfu, where they built Kassiopi. Yet others believe that Kassiopi started flourishing from Homer’s time.
How to get there
By airplane: From Athens International Airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’ there are direct flights to Corfu International Airport ‘Ioannis Kapodistrias’. Also, at Corfu airport, international arrivals (specific countries) take place.
By ship: From the port of Igoumenitsa and the port of Patras, there are daily departures to Corfu.
